Spam blacklists

Spam blacklists are databases of servers known for sending spam. Mail providers and corporate filters use IP and domain reputation, including blocklists, as part of deciding whether to accept, reject or filter an email. If a server is on one, its mail can end up in spam or get rejected. What counts most for you: our 2 mail delivery servers, which send your emails out into the world. Our 4 inbound mail servers, which receive emails for you, are checked as well.

Encryption & authenticity

Two questions. First: is your email encrypted while it travels between servers, so nobody along the way can read it? Second: can the receiving provider verify that an email claiming to come from fuck.it really came from us? The standards for that are called SPF, DKIM and DMARC. Without them, email looks forged and gets filtered. We check our published records every day and connect to our inbound servers directly.

Every listing on a major or common list is logged here with start and end time, and stays here. Including the embarrassing ones.

How we check

Every hour our own resolver asks each blacklist directly, over DNS. No third-party aggregator, no cached screenshots. Each list also has to pass a health test every hour: it must list an entry that is known to be listed (its official test entry where it has one) and must not list one that isn't. If it fails, it's shown as not reachable instead of a fake green.

A list that fails its health test for 3 days in a row is taken off this page, and comes back after it has passed for 24 hours without a break. New lists are added the same way, after 24 hours of passing. Whether a list lists us plays no part in this: if a list we took off lists one of our servers, we show it anyway, in its own block at the top of the section, and count it as an issue.

Major
Lists that big providers and corporate filters actually block on.
Common
Widely used by smaller providers and self-hosted servers.
Niche
Regional or small lists. Rarely decide anything, checked anyway.

UCEPROTECT isn't shown here. Level 1 lists individual IP addresses and we monitor it internally. Levels 2 and 3 can list entire network allocations or ASNs rather than individual mail servers.

Inbound and outbound servers are operated by Open-Xchange in Germany. Listings on inbound servers are handled together with them.
